Bitdefender and Avira provide top-of-the-line malware security, real-time protection and ransomware protection. Both are user-friendly so even those new to cybersecurity can start in no time. Additionally, both offer many additional features, including a VPN as well as a file shredder, additional privacy protections and one-click optimization.
Avira and Bitdefender both have excellent overall scores in independent testing labs. However, in this particular round I'd prefer to give the advantage to Bitdefender due to its superior performance in the AV Comparatives' Performance Test, which measures the impact security software can have on a computer's speed. Its low impact score means it runs in the background without significantly slowing down your computer — unlike some competitors.
AV-Comparatives also tests for the amount of impact each product's features have on the performance of your system when you perform common computer tasks such as visiting websites, downloading files and copying files. Bitdefender was the lone competitor to pass this test with a clean score. Avira was a close second.
Both offer a great level of customer support. Avira has a great knowledge base and YouTube channel, whereas Bitdefender offers a comprehensive support hub with a telephone number with live chat, email support, and video tutorials. The support hub is arranged by product, so that you can find the help you require.
